Which I thought I would miss as I was speeding to the Jersey City Museum only to find out that they were waiting just for me to arrive.
I was curios what Felix DeRoy wanted to share with us, his film takes place in 1949 on the island of Curacao, which I had visited in 2004. In brief the story is about the evolving relation of the Suriname painter Gabriel Goedbloed and between his model chosen for the mural of the Virgin Mary, Miss Ava Recordina coming from mixed origin who is engaged to the white police major. Though there are many other angles or rather complications to the film. It touch deep on subjects like racism, homosexual issues, politics all shown through some beautiful deep blue colors (I could tell despite of the horrible quality).
The movie was being screened as part of the African Diaspora Cine-Club, with their next screening at Columbia Teachers College on the last Friday of May showing Looking for Life, a 60min documentary.
Thanks for sharing about this film and about the African Diaspora Cine-Club. Happy pedaling!
