So I finally made it to Shapes of Space exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum. Last time from El Greco to Picasso I left with some good vibes. Also, I am lucky enough to share the same street, a far side of it, I get to see and admire the building Solomon R Gugenheim from the outside often enough to say it's among the few favorites.
First in the lobby, an incredible construction is waiting for you, a rather simple creation giving a great view of itself and everything surrounding it, let that be the street or other visitors alike. Optical games the illusions are generally great to be looking at,
There are really cool stuff on display, like László Moholy-Nagy, Space Modulator and Dan Flavin, untitled or Piet Mondrian, Composition No. 1.
All this is while a precise reconstruction of the building is taking place, with detailed explanation of it. I particularly enjoyed the last few rounds where all was bare white and empty so one could enjoy and take the curves of Frank Lloyd Wright's incredible architectural creation.
Anyway, off to Central Park now for a bit as the sun is still up, the Metropolitan is open late anyway. Here I had such a cute encounter with a 16months old little girl that started flirting with across the field. What a beautiful way to end the week with, it was relaxing and playful at the same time.
At the Metropolitan the New Roman and Greek exhibition hall, if I may report is done in a clean and inviting way where the vast number of statues are incorporated making the hall feel like you are back in the day in a courtyard somewhere in Greece. The renovation was done with a lot of attention paid to detailing. Again, totally worth coming back and to just to get lost in the Muesum. There was still time too see how the Islamic World put it's influence on Venice , if you want to travel to the West of it and see how Barcelona was influenced by it's artists before the war... keep in mind you are running out of time as it will closes on June 3.
So, if you live in New York what's your excuse for not seeing any of these? If not, come visit and find what fits you best and enjoy New York City! And for me at the end of my Friday was some charcoal grilled vegetables and a delicious salmon burger cooked on my fire escape, thanks for the help Rick.
While you were in Venice we wondered Barcelona. World is small in the MET. A & T.
