Saying Good Bye

Today was burial day.
By the time we arrived Rabbi Schweitzer was already waiting and preparing in the room next to where the service was held. He was sitting in a dimmed room. It was touching to see the Chief Rabbi of Hungary again after so many years. Quickly I was reminded of the qualities he bears and the positive energy he passes on. We quickly engaged in a conversation about Mamci, life in America and our mutual friends. Other relatives were seeping into the room to enjoy the calming karma.
His speech was to the point and the final trip was in good spirits.
Anna, Matyi and Peter hosted the whole family, relatives and friends in her apartment in Donati utca where we had our unique Shiva sitting.
A not so happy occasion brought together our family which hadn't happened in many years...

Budapest, here we come!

So it doesn't happen too often that Judit and I hang out in Budapest by night. So, we have taken on a project to explore the outing places in the city. The Museum Night on our arrival day was a sort of an invitation to this. In Budapest Museum Night means that all the museums are open until 2 o'clock in the morning, at the small ones you need to make advance reservation in order to gain access as there are concerts and other events offered. We only had the chance to go to Millenaris Park, which was somewhat a big mess from my point of view, but meeting with friends have made it all better. After some usual dicking around we wound up at Cha Cha Cha on Margit Sziget after which we finished the night in a classy way and walked home at dawn... (partying like a rock star and sleeping late can take care of your jet lag, also great Mom's cooking helps too).
Sunday we conquered Szimpla kert and Konzi kert in one shot, Konzi kert just opened under Nagymezo utca 1, stuffed with tables, chairs and other stuff from theater settings gives it a cool ambience, the original idea is to have classical music is going to be played at early evening is also great. Wishing all my best for great success at this new venue.
And as there are no accidents, and things happen for a reason, so when I was searching for Mate I not only have found him, but a 16 year old sweet memory from high school which I have been thinking about from time to time, 16 years must be strong to not let it fade...
So far the best lounge was Fecske (Swallow) which is set up on the roof of Komjadi uszoda, this is an outside pool where I learned to swim. You sit in between Margitsziget and the Hills of Buda. Oh, the most important part of this night (Monday) was meeting Ancsa who is our friend from like ever. So good to have friends with whom you can just pick up where you left off...

5 Borough Generals in da Bronx

So when you ride an allycat you fast learn that delivering a prompt start is not high on the list of the bike messenger community. When you are to show up between noon and 1pm then expect the race to start at 3pm. Well it included a lof of pre stuff, like interviews, last minute preparations and for the cheaters getting Sparks required for one of the check points, which I didn't even know that exist. Since I have never raced a bike before, and especially not with like the most experienced bike riders in New York I was rather on the reserved side and was concentrating on keeping my cool and my focus on safety.
A lot more people have showed up then I thought would, almost a 100 registered racers, we all filled out our waivers, got our spoke cards and manifests. Finally we stopped traffic going to any directions and set off to the Bronx from 157th Street and Edgecomb Avenue. The adrenaline started rushing as all were making to the first checkpoint, by the way you can view the whole route here.
Lot's have happened during the race, flats, falls and friends just to stay with the Fs. Some check points were hard to find, some were fun. I got lost at one point and finally on City Island I was getting to being super exhausted so needed to ride even slower, this was the last check point before finish where I was in 69th place. After all I have explored a new borough of New York, seen several spots I will return to and had a great ride with a bunch of nice people.
The after party was awesome, great food, nice weather, good prizes for the lucky ones and honoring the super fast ones. Dave August , Michael Green along with Lee Azarello share their stories of the day. Lastly do you know what DFL means? OK, I will tell dead fucking last and being that isn't that easy either as I hear. Lastly thanks for Tim at NYC Velo for leading me the right direction to keep my butt comfortable.

Good karma, no drama is my new motto.
It was a tough week... even today it decided to start up at around 3 o'clock for a last run. Well, I handled the challenge, so it ends well when it ends well smile.
Some last minute preparations for the rumble through da bronx and hopefully we will get rewarded with good weather on Orchard Beach.
As an introduction I went to Trixie night
where i mingled with some new faces. Even the po po came at the end, but nothing major, was good meeting interesting people. Some went to Brooklyn some rode home...

For me, it was brisk workout, up on First Avenue from the Lower East Side passed a lot of cars till my first red on 40th, the tunnel under UN saved me so then at 64th again, but York is a pretty quite Avenue not too big of hills, I like.
So, let's get ready to rumble and stay tuned for results...

I must confess to have watched a lot of TV a long while ago, but since I have gone straight I barely turn it on , I rather go to the movies to enjoy the big screen. So I have seen some really great movies the past few years. Just to mention a few favorites: 2 ou 3 choses que je sais d'elle, The Lives of Others,
Barry Lyndon, Taxidermia just to mention a few. I must have good taste, or maybe it's my luck, but there has been no disappointment in my choices.
Well, the signs were clearly saying to me tonight that I will be in for some 'treat'. Into the first 8 or 9 minutes the film gets ripped and saw the cellulose melting. It's been MANY years I saw that happen last. The other fact that there were 200+ men and 4 women in the movie theater shouldn't really have anything to do with the quality. So I went to see Ferfiakt by Esztergalyos Karoly and let's say the movie some moments, but very limited, almost the best part was the 15 seconds of Makk Karoly insert from Elveszett Paradicsom.
He was going back and forth from realist to surrealist, also the script was not really corresponding with the picture, on the plus side the heterosexual scenes were done nicely as there were 1 or 2 well done camera work along with well chosen tracks on the plus side.

A lot is happening this weekend, the New York Scooter Club is gathering for rides a lot of fun on Saturday and Sunday. Yvette and Samu is having their engagement party/picnic on Sunday which hopefully won't interfere with the Puerto Rican day parade. Also it's getting close to the Battle Through the
Bronx and I'd better be getting in shape and get to know the streets of the Bronx as I need to race all the way to the 'beach', yes I know it sounds funny; beach in the Bronx.

this isn't right

so I am outraged... May is bike month in New York and Transportation Alternatives have done a lot of great stuff lately to promote biking, more bike lanes, more awareness etc. and cycling is good it doesn't pollute and it's also healthier. At the same time odd things started happening, there's been a crack down on motor bikers in general and 'illegally parked' scooters along the city are being towed. BUT please explain to what is the reason behind police taking locked up bicycles and giving it to people passing by and arresting other bystanders? Mayor Bloomberg, do you care to comment?
