New Airport Designs For Increased Air Travel
This USA Today article tells the tale of Jim Starry who has an airport design he wants put in place. He claims it can reduce pollution at a single airport by 56 percent and save 1,000 gallons of jet fuel per flight. He says he can accomplish this by building smaller, more efficient airports that have inclined runways for landing and declined runways for takeoff as well as runways that lead directly to the roof of a terminal/parking garage.
Starry also claims the short distance between runway and terminal will also reduce fuel consumption and says these airports can be built on 0ne-third the land at 0ne-half the cost. All of this is very important since air travel is predicted increase 45 percent by 2020. All those new passenger and airplanes will need someplace to go.
