Greece Suffers Tourism Slump Despite Olympics
Even with the summer Olympics about to descend upon Athens, the country of Greece has seen a tourism slump caused by the strong Euro, a sluggish international economy and delayed construction projects. Seattle Times reports as of mid-July many thousands of beds out of a 62,000 bed count in Athens have yet to be reserved and about half of Olympic event tickets have yet to be sold.

How about an update?
Over 4 million tickets sold in Athens. More than Seoul or Barcelona (incidentally, Spain has 5 x Greece's population). True, some tourists stayed away because of media hysteria about terrorism, but it was their loss. Athens was the best Olympics ever on so many levels, from infrastructure, to transportation, to organization and most importantly, beauty, spirit and presentation. A resounding success that is sure to promote Athens as a world city and lift Greece's slumping tourism industry.
